With the announcement of CAT 2016, there are students who scored decent CAT percentile that will help them catapult to their dream B-schools and there are some students could not achieve good CAT percentile due to various reasons.

But does that mean that everything is over by now?

Not at all, still you can grab a seat in a decent B-school. Your entire energy and efforts should now be shifted to various admission options that are on offer from various B-schools which give very less weightage to MBA exam scores like CAT/ XAT. So you still hold the chance to get into a good B-school despite low score in MBA entrance exam. These B-schools shortlist candidates with percentile low as 50-60 percentile or more.

Expected CAT 2016 score cut-off for Admission in IIMs

    All is not yet over…….

So the obvious questions that may be creeping into your mind that what are the parameters on which they are shortlisting the candidate and find them suitable for admission? These B-schools look for various components like extracurricular activity, academic background, personality traits, communication skills, social behavior jaded with other characteristics while putting the final stamp on admission process. Not only this, there are some B-schools that give weightage as low as 20-30 percent while finalizing their selection process. Thus despite your low CAT/XAT score some B-school can still shortlist you as the CAT/XAT score are not the deciding criterion for them.

I have average academic background; can I still get admission in IIMs?

Shortlist the B-schools before they shortlist you!

Not yet satisfied with the above escape route, don’t worry… don’t lose heart. You can still save your one year by gearing up for the upcoming MBA exams which are around the corner and hold another chance for you to get into your dream business school.

Why I did not get a call from IIM despite a CAT score of 99+ percentile

So what should be your next move now?

With the schedule of the above listed MBA exams, many B-schools are going to conduct their GD-PI very shortly. Therefore your preparation for written test and GD-PI should happen simultaneously. Keeping in view of the fact that you already know the syllabus and basic knowledge (which is common for most of the exams) can prove to be handy for these exams which are comparatively easier to crack than CAT/XAT.

So plan your strategy in such a way that you can manage your preparation for the written test (for the upcoming MBA entrance test) along with your GD-PI as some B-school may shortlist you despite your low score in CAT 2016.

    Some handy tips!!

    • We will advise you not to touch a new topic for your written test. Instead focus on those areas in which you are strong and confident that you have already aced in CAT preparation.
    • Secondly, an early preparation strategy may give you an upper hand over the other CAT aspirants who start their preparation after the admission process to this academic year ends.
    • Last but not the least; if you are still aiming for the IIMs and top 10 B-schools only then you should seriously start afresh for CAT 2017. But you need to tread cautiously, as this last option may cost you one year which you may have to justify before the interviewers.

We wish you all the best for your career!
