The IAS Prelims 2014 was conducted on 24 August 2014. According to the Union Public Service Commission Secretary Ashim Khurana , a total of 9,44,926 candidates applied for the IAS Examination 2014 and 6,80,455 downloaded their admit cards for appearing in the IAS Preliminary Exam 2014. Around 4, 51,602 candidates took the examination in various exam centres spread across the country, about 1.27 lakh more than last year. It was the largest number in the IAS Prelims Exam in the recent past.
The last year, the Cutoff marks for IAS Prelims 2013 (the General Category) was 241 out of 400. This Cut-off marks is inclusive of General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II
As the number of Candidates has increased and the six questions of English Language Skills will not be counted in the final merit, hence the merit of the exam is expected to increase.
