IIM Ahmedabad - the premier B-school of India has once again hiked the fee of its MBA programme, as per the latest reports. The B-school has raised the fee of its flagship post-graduate program (PGP) in management for 2018-20 to Rs. 22 lakh from Rs. 21 lakh. Often touted as the benchmark of management education in India, IIM-Ahmedabad attracts management aspirants from across the country for the MBA programmes through CAT MBA entrance test.

The news of hike in the PGP Fee hike was announced by IIM Ahmedabad director Prof. Erol D'Souza, on the sidelines of the 53rd convocation of the top MBA College in India. Prof. D’Souza informed that the decision about hike in the fee of MBA programme was taken by the IIM Ahmedabad Board, which met on 23rd March.

This time, the IIM Ahmedabad fee has been hiked by Rs 1 lakhs which takes the total fee amount for the flagship MBA programme from Rs 21 lakhs last year to Rs 22 lakhs this year. The fee hike would impact students who are planning to join the IIM Ahmedabad's PGP in Management and PGP Food and Agribusiness Management (PGP-FABM).

Commenting upon the hike in the IIM Ahmedabad MBA fee, IIM A Director Prof. Erol D'Souza said that "There was a discussion with regard to the fee. Like every year, there will be a rise in fee. In line with inflation, we shall be raising it by five per cent. For PGP program the new fee will be Rs. 22 lakh for two years. There will be five per cent increase in PGPX (Post Graduate Programme for Executives) fee as well."

The 53rd Annual Convocation of IIM Ahmedabad was held at the Louis Kahn Plaza, IIMA Main Campus, Ahmedabad on 24th March 2018, Saturday. A total of 576 students received their degrees during the convocation function; these included 398 students from PGP (management) batch of 2016-18; 47 from PGP (FABM) batch of 2016-18; 115 from PGPX batch of 2017-18; and 16 from FPM.

Dr Janmejaya Sinha - the Chairman of the Asia-Pacific region and member of Executive Committee of Boston Consulting Group, presided over the event as the chief guest. He also delivered the convocation address to the students. In his address, Mr Sinha advised the students to “Build on your strengths. Don’t spend a lifetime trying to fix your weaknesses.”

Talking about the B-school’s move the promote gender and academic diversity on the campus IIM Ahmedabad Director Prof. Erol D'Souza said that "The diversity fairy has -- if I may say so -- begun to infect the campus. In terms of educational background, non-engineers were 32% of the students in the PGP - the highest ever in more than 15 years.” He also informed the group that in the PGP-FABM programme the percentage of non-engineering candidates stood at 45% of the current batch.

He also added that “In terms of gender diversity the PGP saw 28% women joining the program in 2017 - an increase from the 14% figure of 2015. Similarly the PGP-FABM saw 50% women joining the program in 2017. This year 50 per cent of the graduating students from the FPM are male.”
