The top 50 of the QS World University Ranking by Subject includes four Indian Academic Institutions. These are Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology – Mumbai, Indian Institute of Technology – Madras, and Indian Institute of Science (IISc).
IIT-Delhi and IIT-Bombay stand at the 42nd and 49th positions, respectively, in Electrical Engineering, one of the 30 disciplines covered under the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject. The IIT-Bombay finds another top 50 place in the Civil Engineering discipline at 50th position after IIT-Madras at 49th position. The IISc secured 46th rank in the discipline Materials Science.
"The IITs continue to perform well in their specialist areas and the inclusion of three of them in the global top 50 in the engineering disciplines shows that they are starting to achieve genuine international renown," said QS head of research Ben Sowter.
In disciplines like Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, no Indian universities’ course has found a place. IIT-Bombay is the only one in the top 200 in any of the five arts and humanities disciplines, finding a place in 151-200 rank bracket for linguistics.
The Indian universities has got the best exposure in statistics with five institutions such as IIT-D, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Kanpur, Indian Statistical Institute and IIT-B. The Jawaharlal Nehru University is good in the discipline Politics, standing in the rank bracket of 101-150.
All in all, IIT-B emerges as the top institution from India with four of its courses doing well in the QS World Ranking.
