The newly launched Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Gandhinagar has got none other than Uncle Sam to guide them in their academics. After the sign from the US side and the agreement between the centre and US gets finalized in the recently concluded visit of American President Barack Obama, the institute would get into the big league in India.
Under the plan, IIT Gn would get help in the field of research labs, industry and expertise from the American Universities, so that it could excel in the field of research and development and generate entrepreneurs. The pact would further see faculty and student exchange programmes, introduction of new courses, workshops and different training programmes.
IIT Gandhinagar has the crown of being the only IIT to initiate a mandatory course in design education at UG Level. It is also planning to launch new programs on design and life sciences. There would be task forces situated to help set up exchange information and technical assistance in IIT Gn. The collaboration is also likely to help in the establishment of the five new proposed IITs in the country which coming up at, Panaji (Goa), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), Palakkad (Kerala), Raipur or Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) and in Jammu and Kashmir.
