Vivek Mishra- My uncle was district court judge. From the very beginning I wanted to join Civil Services and I started preparing for that after passing my graduation exam.

Jagranjosh.com- How many attempts did you take to achieve success? What did you learn from your previous attempts?
Vivek Mishra- It was my second interview. I didn’t get success in my last interview because I didn’t score high marks in the written exam. I took it as a challenge and tried to improve it. And as a result I achieved success.

Jagranjosh.com- Which language did you chose as a medium to write the exam?
Vievk Mishra- Hindi language.

Jagranjosh.com- Did you take help of coaching institutes for your exam preparation? What role do they play in exam preparation?
Vievk Mishra- Yes, I did take help from coaching institutes in New Delhi. Besides, I joined coaching classes for History and Hindi literature. I also took help while preparing for my interview.

Jagranjsoh.com- Did you take help from any portal or website for this exam? In what way Internet can be helpful for this exam?
Vivek Mishra- Yes, I took help from Internet. It makes exam preparation easy. There is a lot of study material available on Internet. Students should utilize that while preparing for the exam.

Jagranjosh.com- How much time one needs to achieve success in UPPCS exam? How much time did you take?
Vievek Mishra- It differs from person to person. In my opinion, it will take 2-3 years to get success in this exam.

Jagranjosh.com- What was your optional subject in UPPCS (Prel.) exam-2010.  What was the basis of choosing optional?

Vievk Mishra- For Indian Polity: Constitution of India authored by Kishore Sharma, India and World Geography: India and World Geography authored by Mahesh Garhwal, for Science I read Science publication.

Jagranjosh.com- What do you think about the changed exam pattern of UPPCS exam?
Vivek Mishra- I think it’s more practical now. The changed pattern demands logical and analytical attitude. One can’t rote now to achieve success. For that we need to develop our thinking. We need to improve our personality. Only then we can achieve success.

Jagranjosh.com- Do you think prelim is the most difficult part of the exam?
Vivek Mishra- Prelim exam is a kind of screening test. In comparison to main exam it is relatively easy. For main exam one needs to have analytical ability as well as factual knowledge. You have to do a lot of written practice besides doing self study.

Jagranjosh.com- When did you start preparing for Main exam? Do you think one should wait for prelim result before starting the main exam preparation?
Vivek Mishra-  No, never. One should start preparing for main exam along with the prelim. One develops his written style on the basis of the knowledge acquired during the preparation for prelim. On that basis we crack the main exam. In my opinion one should start preparing for Main exam without waiting for the prelim exam result.

Jagranjosh.com- What were your optionals for Main exam?
Vivek Mishra- For Main exam, my optionals were History and Hindi literature.

Jagranjosh.com- What strategy you adopted for preparing GS (General Studies) in Main exam?
Vivek Mishra-I didn’t adopt any particular strategy for the Main exam.  But I practiced Math section at home.

Jagranjosh.com- For essay paper what was your strategy? For getting good marks in Essay paper would you suggest any tips/suggestions?
Vievk Mishra- For that I read newspapers and magazines and tried to develop my own viewpoint on any particular topic. After that I started writing essays at home.

Jagranjosh.com- How important is answer writing practice in main exam?
Vivek Mishra- I feel that the main exam mainly depends on answer writing. If you have your own viewpoint and if you have good writing skill then definitely you will get success in main exam. Mostly students have factual knowledge but lack of answer writing practice ends into failure. Therefore, I think one should do answer writing practice regularly.

Jagranjosh.com- When did you start preparing for Interview? What strategy did you adopt for that?
Vivek Mishra- For interview, I took guidance of Sanskrit Ganga Sansthan director Sarvagya Bhushan Mishra. I also took part in Interview mock tests along with my friends. It helped me in getting rid of any hesitation while facing interview.

Jagranjosh.com- Kindly share with us the details of your interview. The timing of interview, strength of interview panel and questions asked in the interview.
Vivek Mishra- I was interviewed by the Board of Sharmanand on 14 September 2012. There were five members including the chairman. It lasted around 30 minutes. I was asked questions on History like treaty of Purundhur, battle of Plassey and battle of Buxer. I was also asked the questions related to NASA and heavy water, Decline of Mughal Dynasty, Mahatma Gandhi, Bhimrao Ambedkar, Atomic reactor development, Kudunkulum project. Moreover, Interview board also wanted to know why should I leave the job of lecturer to become SDM. They also asked me questions related to Hindi Literature. They asked me to name the minority Presidents of India and Prime ministers who have been awarded with Bharat Ratna. Overall the attitude of the board was cordial and friendly.

Jagranjosh.com-What important things one should keep in mind while facing the Interview board?
Vivek Mishra- The candidates should have self-confidence. You can’t change your personality within 15 days. But if you maintain your self-confidence you can represent yourself in the best possible way. One should try to maintain his/her balanced attitude. It will be helpful in getting good marks.

Jagranjosh.com-  Do you think Current Affairs plays an important role in all three stages; Prelim, Main and Interview. In what way its role will increase in future?
Vivek Mishra- Current Affairs is the centre point of Prelims, Main and Interview. It helps not only in Essay paper but makes the optional subjects contemporary. If CSAT exam pattern is applied in Main exam, the role of Current Affairs will definitely increase.

Jagranjosh.com- What is your goal in life? And how will you work in that direction? While working as a civil servant what have you planned ?
Vivek Mishra- Whatever work has been assigned to me I will try to execute them in a better way in the interest of common man. I will implement government policies in a better way after joining civil services.

Ajit Kumar,

Dear Shivam Do not confuse yourself . The path of success is very easy,if you do not confuse. The very best thing is that whatever subjects you like most than others go for them. As per my view, you should go from another field because UPSC demand as administrator rather than specialist in particular field. Thanks
