Jamia to have 10 percent Fee Hike from New Academic Session

Jul 23, 2015 17:36 IST

For all the courses under the prestigious Jamia Milia Islamia University there would be rise of 10 percent in fees from the ongoing academic year. The officials have termed the hike as ‘normal hike’ while the students are disappointed with the rise as the rise will cause in their pockets.

The students have argued the step by the authorities to hike fees for all the courses claiming that “amount of resources and consumables required aren’t the same for all courses”.  According to a student, “Why should a group of students who don’t use any equipment have to pay for their running cost and maintenance?” There are students who also study at the university who belong to different states and have to manage their living while undergoing their studies.

The Vice Chancellor of the university Talat Ahmad has put the hike as ‘marginal hike’ said, “The fee has been hiked after a gap of three years. It is a very reasonable hike. Still, if it is not affordable by some students we are working out a mechanism to address that too.”

The VC further added, “We are striving to have a student aid fund, which will provide assistance to students on merit cum means basis to ensure that no one is devoid of studies due to financial reasons.”
