Why does less number of students register for JEE Advanced?

  • First reason could be the difficulty level of JEE Advanced which tests students on the basis of their in depth knowledge on the subject. Students need to prepare quite hard to get through this level of IIT entrance exam.
  • The second reason could be that a number of students feel content with their JEE-Main score and choose to study in National Institutes of Technology (NITs) instead of going through the complex process of getting admission into an IIT and a course of their choice.
  • Another reason for the drop in registration for JEE Advanced could be the availability of less number of seats for candidates with lower rank as maximum seats in IITs go to students from the reserved categories.

 About the exam:

JEE advanced is the second-level examination, after JEE Main, for admission into the engineering programs of the prestigious IITs or the Indian Institutes of Technology. This exam is conducted by the 7 zonal IITs on a rotational basis as per the guidelines of IIT exam governing body - Joint Admission Board (JAB).
