Kerala CM roots for agricultural job creation in the State

Jul 8, 2016 16:51 IST

The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan has encouraged the youth with formal or no education to turn towards agricultural field jobs. This would help solving the unemployment in the state, which is plaguing the economy of the state as well. Stating that unemployment is a severe problem, the Chief Minister while launching the Kerala State Youth Commission job portal said that in the state the problem of unemployment is not only for the educated youth but un-educated ones as well.

Addressing the youth present at the ceremony, Vijayan said, “Youths who are not that educated should turn to agriculture as there is so much opportunity. However, now it is not easy to make a living from agriculture. For making agriculture glamorous as any other job, it should become income-generating and profitable.”

Stating the agriculture field as a good source of generating job opportunities, Pinarayi stated that “If the youth face disappointments, they would resort to wrong actions. That will not be good for the state.” On reports of exploitation of marginally educated people from the state at abroad Pinarayi said that the respective Indian embassies in such countries must take proactive role to safeguard the interest of the Indian job-seekers there. He said, “Of course, the embassies have to act according to the law of the land. But while functioning under the limitation, they should take the responsibility to play a proactive role to solve the issues faced by job-seekers.”

He said that he is in talk with External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj regarding the issue, who had ensured him that firm steps are being taken in this regard. But there are many incidents that are proving time and again that the exploitation of such candidates is continuing in offshore lands. Ascertaining the students, Pinarayi said that the new Kerala government has already begun to take steps to report the vacancies in various departments and is keeping a clear record about them.
