    The recruitment on the post of a Civilian in Indian Navy is common besides the armed or combat duty personnel in the force. Recruitment on various Civilian posts in Indian Navy is done for the support services they render their services from maintenance of Ship and Dockyard to office staff, mess staff, etc. The functions on Civilian vacancies vary according to trade of recruitment and the post of appointment. In general, Civilian performs the duties like overseeing the records section, cleaning up different sections or units, delivering office documents and materials to different sections or units, photocopying, sending fax, non-clerical works, handling usual works in the office, duties of watch and ward, opening up and shutting down office or unit for office operations, cleaning of fixtures in the office, etc., keeping greenery in park, lawn and pots, helping tradesmen to perform their duties and ensuring tasks assigned by the senior officials.

    The selection of Civilians in the Indian Navy is done usually in various specializations like - Civilian Motor Driver, Pest Control Worker, Cook, Fire Engine Driver, Groom, Barber, Fireman, Data Entry Operator (DEO), Multi Tasking Staff (Non-Industrial), Gardner, Washer man, Saddler, Medical Attendant, Radiographer, Laboratory Attendant, Ward Assistant (only for females), Bearer, Trainer, Telephone Operator, Dispatch Rider, Cameraman, Cinema Projectionist, Library and Information Assistant, Boxing Trainer, Photo Printer and others.

    Eligibility Conditions for Civilian in Navy

    To become a Civilian in the Indian Navy a candidate needs to have qualified high school or secondary or 10th examination from a recognized university or board. In addition to this, candidates must have done certificate course in the respective trade from ITI / NVCT from a recognized institution. For clerical functions, candidates must have good typing speed.

    Age Limit for Civilian in Navy

    To become a Civilian in Navy a candidate’s age must fall into the range of 18 years to 25 years.

    Selection Process

    The selection of candidates for Civilian in Navy posts differs from trade to trade and post wise. Usually it is done on the basis of their performance in the Academic Records, Written Exam, Physical Endurance Test and Skill Test or Trade Test. Candidates are also required to fulfill certain physical standards like - Height 165 CM, Chest 81.5 CM (without expansion) and 85 CM (with expansion), weight 50 KG, carrying 63.5 KG weight to 183 meter in 96 seconds, long jump of 2.7 meter, climbing rope of 3 meter height, etc.

    Salary Structure

    For the post of Civilian in Navy, initially, a salary is given according to the Pay Matrix Level - 1, i.e. Rs. 18,000 – 56,900/- to Pay Matrix Level - 2, i.e. Rs. 19,900 – 63,200/- of the Seventh Pay Commission. On some posts salary could be according to the Pay Matrix Level - 3, i.e. Rs. 21,700 – 69,100/- the Seventh Pay Commission. Apart from this, various allowances and facilities like mess, school, etc. are also given.
