The post of Field Surveyor is common at different Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), major excavation companies, municipal corporations of the Central Government and State Governments, at various research institutions and educational institutions, public works departments, urban and regional development authorities, etc. within the country. The appointment on Field Surveyor post is done as Group ‘C’ personnel at most of organizations. Wherever a Field Surveyor is posted his duty is to conduct the field survey for places or geographical condition according to the instructions of the senior officials of the organization or institution working for and collecting the necessary data as well as information.

Role of a Field Surveyor is important in context to the estimation of real scenario at any place, drafting policies and implementation of the same by the government bodies. So, imperative skills to become a Field Surveyor understanding about working in field, scaling, mapping, etc. and should be efficient enough to draft and improve the maps of any place or area.

Eligibility Conditions for Field Surveyor

To become a Field Surveyor a candidate needs to have qualified 10th class from a recognized board or university. Candidates should have done diploma in Civil Engineering of three years duration or ITI in Land Surveying of two years duration from any recognized institution recognized by the State Board of Technical Education.

Age Limit for Field Surveyor

To become a Field Surveyor a candidate’s age must fall into the range of 18 years to 27 years. However, the upper age limit could be 30 years or more in case if the appoint is to be done on contract basis. The reserved category (SC / ST / OBC / PWD/ ExSM) candidates get relaxation in upper age limit according to the rules laid down by the Government.

Selection Process for Field Surveyor

The selection of candidates for Field Surveyor posts is done on the basis of their performance in the Academic Records, Written Exam and Practical/Skill test. Candidates could be selected on the basis of Academic Records and Personal Interview if the appointment is to be done on contract basis.

Salary Structure of Field Surveyor

Salary for the post of Field Surveyor is given as per the Pay Band 1 Rs. 5,200 – 20,400/- of the Sixth Pay Commission. The salary could as per the Pay Matrix Level -4 Rs. 25,500 – 81,100/- of the Seventh Pay Commission wherever it has been implemented.  Apart from this, various allowances (DA, HRA, etc.) are also given.
