All hopes of a fifth cut-off list is seemed to be diminished after the first day of admissions in Delhi University Colleges under the fourth list, letting the lesser-known, off-campus colleges to follow the trend of managing to complete admissions and dismissing all hopes of a fifth list by the end of admissions under the fourth list.
Sri Venkateshwara College, which had available seats in English, Economics and Sociology courses, allowed admissions to around 60 students on the first day of admissions under fourth list. However, Ramjas College still keeps up the hope of a fifth list, though it is also running out of seats.
As said by Lady Shri Ram College spokesperson Kannika, the story behind the curtain is that most of the top ranked colleges have been forced to announce higher cut-offs than usual just in order to avoid the chances of over-admissions and that’s how they manage to continue with the admissions till the announcement of the fourth cut-off list. In previous years with three-year program structure, if a Department ended up over-admission, it was the Department’s problem. But now under the new four-year undergraduate program, the over admitted students will be the responsibility of several Departments. Hence, any single Department cannot allow over-admission, leading higher cut-offs this year and consequently, lesser hopes for a fifth cut-off list.
The fifth cut-off list is almost ruled out from Lady Shri Ram College, which had only seats open only for History in the fourth list. However, some category seats are still open in a few courses in this college.
Lesser-known colleges like Maharaja Agrasen, Swami Shraddhanand, Atma Ram and Khalsa also couldn’t manage to cope with over admissions and closed their admissions prior to the last dates announced by the University.
