The common myth surrounding awarding of scholarship is that it is needed only by students who come from a financially unstable background. As a matter of fact, scholarship can be a good way to save money spent on education for any meritorious student. Scholarships boost morale and give the push that can help you thrust yourself into the annals of true self-worth and creative freedom in the area of career professions. In India, there are three major providers of scholarships for students. These are:
Government of India
Government of India is committed towards increasing the literacy rate in the country and for the same reason it provides scholarships to students under various schemes. Most of these scholarships are awarded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) and some other by multiple government organizations functioning in the country. In order to make sure that no student misses out on education due to financial reasons, the government of India launched the Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students is in operational since 2008.The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to the meritorious students having family income of less than Rs.6 lakh per annum, to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies. Annual target is 82,000 scholarships per year (41000 for boys and 41000 for girls) which has been divided amongst the State Education Boards based on the State’s population in the age group of 18-25 years. Students who are above 80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream from a particular Board of Examination in class XII and pursuing regular course and not availing benefit of any other scholarships, are eligible to apply under this Scheme. The rate of scholarship is Rs. 10,000/- per annum for the first three years and Rs. 20,000/- per annum for the fourth and fifth year. It also offers scholarships like Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir, Scheme of Scholarship to students from Non-Hindi Speaking States for Post-Matric Studies in Hindi.
Scholarships form an important part of corporate social responsibility (CSR) for many private companies. For the uninitiated, CSR activities are mandatory for all private companies so that they return something to the society which helps them function. A lot of companies open NGOs etc but some choose to provide education and do great work in the field of providing assistance for education.
There are categories of scholarships, as well. One which is provided for education in India itself and one which helps students have an inexpensive education abroad.
The scholarship for studying abroad is essential for students as the value of rupee in comparison to currencies in most European and American countries is quite low. The tuition fee itself becomes a financial burden, let alone the cost of living at such places.
Here is the list of abroad scholarships for students wishing to study abroad India.
As you can see in the list, different scholarships demand different criteria and qualification. You can choose to apply for ones which fit your credentials for an inexpensive education ahead. The expenses will increase in college before you even realize so it would be a good idea to save whatever money, wherever you can.
