Maharashtra Board has prescribed new syllabus for Higher Secondary Chemistry subject and has considered national level curriculum for the subject. This has been done considering that students will be appearing for state level and national level entrance exams for admissions to medical courses, engineering and technology courses. Therefore, the new syllabus of Maharashtra Board HSC Chemistry subject has been designed on basis of curriculum prescribed by NCERT so as to make students ready for challenges of Entrance Exams.
Maharashtra Board Class 11th and Class 12th syllabus contains topics like physical, organic, inorganic, industrial, analytical and polymer chemistry. The new syllabus of HSC Chemistry by Maharashtra Board includes new formulations and nomenclature of elements, compounds and IUPAC units of physical quantities as well as new nomenclature, symbols and formulations, fundamental concepts, modern techniques.

Examination Pattern of Maharashtra Board HSC Chemistry Subject–
There will be only one paper for the subject of total 100 marks and the weightage is as given below –
- Theory paper – 70 marks
- Practical/Viva– 30 marks
The questions for HSC Chemistry subject is of –
- Multiple Choice Questions type
- Very Short Answer Type
- Short Answer Type I
- Short Answer Type II
- Long Answer Type
As per the marking scheme of Maharashtra Board HSC Chemistry Subject, the questions have been allotted marks as under –
- MCQ – 1 mark
- VSA –1 mark
- SA I – 2 marks
- SA II – 3 marks
- LA – 5 marks

Difficulty level of Maharashtra Board HSC Chemistry question paper –
The difficulty level of questions has been decided as under –
- Most difficulty question – 20%
- Average difficulty questions -50%
- Easy questions – 30%
Moreover, the students will be tested for their knowledge and skills as per the weightage given below –
- Concept knowledge has been given weightage of 30%
- Subject understanding has been given 40% weightage
- Skills of Knowledge Application has been given 30% weightage
