Every year there are a whole lot of students who pass-out from Senior Secondary Exams and look forward to career opportunities for themselves. For these students, passing the board exams is just the beginning. The goal now is to find a career that offers them the possibilities of the future in a dramatically changing world.

This article is a guide for students who are facing that confusion right now.

Press, as it is often said is the 4th Pillar of Democracy. From the time of British India, the Press has proven itself to speak for the voice of the people and changed not only the future of the country but the character of the nation itself. Today in an era of digital media, every citizen of India has an opportunity to become a journalist, andwith the introduction of complete Degree and Diploma courses at the Bachelors and Masters Level, the industry that had been closed up till now have been opened.

If you possess Confidence, Creativity and Compassion, what I call the 3Cs, there are immense possibilities for you.

With the increasing need of employees in media organizations, media education becomes a crucial factor in getting the right start to a good career. There are a lot of private institutions today who offer media education, with the slogan that it is easy! The truth is, that media is a tough field. So, if you are planning to be a part of the media future and are looking for the right College, here are a few points that you should look for in it before taking admission:

    1. Faculties from Field: The College should have faculties that have worked professionally in field. This is very important as only those who have real experience in media can teach it. Your College facultieswill ultimately be your guiding mentors and you will be learning from them.

    2. Equipments and Technical Softwares: The College should havethe necessary equipments that are needed for imparting media training; such as a Teleprompter for TV News Anchoring, a Radio Lab, a Video Editing Machine and requisite softwares, a Computer lab, many Photo Editing Softwares, Cameras for photography and Videography, a Studio equipped with Chroma, movable and non-movable lights and other audio-visual related equipments.

    3. Practical training: The College should have a practical curriculum along with the theory aspect. In media, you will not be sitting behind a desk. You will be active in the field or off the field. Practical theory is of all the importance.

    4. Special training programs: Whether the College has somespecial or different activities like Newspaper Publication, TV / Digital Media Channel, Production Team or Crew to ensure that all round training is provided, is a good reference point to see what you will be able to learn at that College.

    5. Updated curriculum: With the introduction of new technologies, social, digital and online, there have been various changes in the media industry. Students should ensure that the College has social media, web media and new media in its curriculum.

Finally, it is very true that every student dreams of a big campus in their college but for media students that is short thinking. Even if a college does not have a big campus, but has the right infrastructure, faculty and training focus as detailed above, you will be at the right place. The profession of media is so wide that once you are trained, your actual campus will be the entire world, for the scope in media today is limitless.
