Ministry of HRD has given a positive nod to the common counseling procedure for IISERs, NITs and IITs from the next academic year. A total of 1120 seats will be open for admission from next year through the common counseling process.
IISERs will join IITs and NITs in a common counseling process from the next year as per the approval by Ministry of HRD. IITs and NITs have been involved in common counseling since previous year.
A total of seven IISERs are there in the country and each of the five IISERs at Kolkata, Mohali, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Bhopal have 200 seats. A total of 120 seats are available in IISERs located at Tirupati and Behrampur.
Similar to the IITs, 15% of the seats will be reserved for foreign students and admission will be through a Joint Entrance Test. Indian candidates will have three different ways to join IISER: clearing KVPY, JEE or being among top 1 percent in the school board including CBSE. NRI students opting any of the three options mentioned above will pay the same fees as their Indian counterparts.
