The Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU), Vadodara through its faculty of science has been looking to receive a grant from the state government for their cellular and molecular biology programme. The university is working on the plan to develop the infrastructure for the said grant and they are eyeing for better equipped laboratories with the help of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Institute for Cellular and Molecular Biology (DVSI).
The state government for the said centre, that is to come up at the MSU University, has donated a seed fund of Rs. 1 crore. The union government’s Department of Biotechnology has invested major sum of Rs. 13.5 crore for the initiation of the project at the university. The additional funds that are required to run the research projects at the university are getting support from the illustrious list of mentors that are signing up from different foreign universities.
The DVSI has been established with the help of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune and has invited stalwarts from India, US, UK and Canada. The Former Dean of MSU’s Faculty of Science Professor Nikhil Desai and former MSU VC Professor Yogesh Singh would also train the students involved in the research projects at DVSI.
