After much assumptions and hiatus, Nalanda University, one of the ancient international centre for learning in Bihar has all begun its first academic session. The classes commenced on 01 September 2014 onwards. The session began with 15 students that include five women and 10 faculty members.
The vice chancellor of the university, Gopa Sabhrawal said, “The University received about 1,000 applications from around the world from 40 countries for admissions. But only 15 best students were selected after much scrutiny and interview for the courses.” The new university will be put up at Rajgir that is 12 km away from the ancient Nalanda University. The inauguration of the University will be conducted around mid-September.
According to Sabhrawal, the University had started off with a three-day student orientation programme for the School of Historical Sciences and the School of Environment and Ecology for the first session 2014-15 on Friday, 29 August 2014. As per reports, the fully-residential university will be completed by 2020 that will include seven schools, all for post-graduate and doctoral students, offering courses in science, philosophy and spirituality and social sciences.
For now the selection process is still on and more students will be enrolled in September for various courses it offers.
