1.
Measure the side of the red square on the dotted sheet.
Draw here as many rectangles as possible using 12 such squares.
How many rectangles could you make?
Answer.
The length of each side of the square is 1 centimetre.
Following figure shows total 7 rectangles can be made of 12 such squares:
2. Each rectangle is made out of 12 equal squares, so all have the same area, but the length of the boundary will be different.
Which of these rectangles has the longest perimeter?
Which of these rectangles has the smallest perimeter?
Answer.
Here, rectangles 1 and 2 have the longest perimeter = 2 (12 + 1) = 26 cm
And rectangles 3, 4, 5 and 6 have the smallest perimeter = 2 (4 + 3) = 14 cm

Measure Stamps
Look at these interesting stamps.
(а) How many squares of one centimetre side does stamp A cover? _______And Stamp B? _______
(b) Which stamp has the biggest area? How many squares of side 1 cm does this stamp cover? How much is the area of the biggest stamp? _________ square cm.
(c) Which two stamps have the same area? _________ How much is the area of each of these stamps? __________ square cm.
(d) The area of the smallest stamp is __________ square cm. The difference between the area of the smallest and the biggest stamp is _________ square cm.
Answer.
(a) Stamp A covers 18 squares, each of one centimetre side and Stamp B covers 8 such squares.
(b) Stamp A has the biggest area.
Area = length x breadth
Length of stamp A = 1+1+1+1+1+1 = 6 cm
Breadth of stamp A = 1+1+1 = 3 cm
Thus, area of stamp A = 6 x 3 = 18 square cm.
(c) Stamps covering same number of squares will have the same areas.
Here stamp D and stamp F both cover 12 squares with 1cm side.
Area of each stamp = 12 square cm.
(d) Stamp E which covers the least number of squares (four) has the smallest area.
The area of the smallest stamp = 4 square cm.
The difference between the area of the smallest and the biggest stamp is = 18 – 4 = 14 square cm.
