The two types of deserts found in the world are:

(i) Hot Deserts

(b) In which continent is the Sahara desert located?

Answer: 

The Sahara Desert is located in the continent of Africa.

(c) What are the climatic conditions of the Ladakh desert?

Answer: 

Ladakh is a cold desert that lies in the Great Himalayas. The altitude of Ladakh ranges from 3000 meters to 8000 meters due to which the climate here is extremely cold and dry. The air at this altitude is so thin that the heat of the sun can be felt intensely. The day temperature during the summers is just above 0˚C and the night temperature goes as low as -30˚C. Winters are extremely cold with temperature remaining less than -40˚C for most of the time.

(d) What mainly attracts tourists to Ladakh?

Answer: 

The Buddhist monasteries with their traditional gompas, the meadows, glaciers, and the ceremonies and festivities of the people of Ladakh are the major attractions for tourists visiting this place.

(e) What type of clothes the people of the Sahara desert wear?

Answer: 

The people of Sahara Desert wear heavy robes as protection against dust storms and hot winds.

(f) Name the trees that grow in Ladakh.

Answer: 

Willows, poplars, and fruit trees like apples, apricots and walnuts are some of the trees that grow in Ladakh.

(i) There is scanty vegetation in the deserts.

Answer: 

A desert is an arid region characterised by low rainfall and extreme temperature conditions. These climatic conditions are not suitable for the growth of plants. That is why there is scanty vegetation in the deserts.

(ii) People of the Sahara desert wear heavy robes.

Answer: 

The climate in the Sahara Desert is extremely hot with dry winds. Therefore, people of the Sahara desert wear long, loose, heavy robes and head wrappings protect an individual against the sun, dust storms and hot winds.
