NEET PG 2021 EWS Quota Row: The Central Government has set-up an independent committee to look into the matter of EWS reservation criteria under AIQ – All India Quota for NEET PG Counselling 2021. The move comes as the Supreme Court deferred hearing on the matter by 4 weeks until January 2022. During the last hearing on the matter of NEET PG Counselling 2021, the Central Government had filed an affidavit to reconsider the eligibility criteria. In line with this, a panel has been appointed to re-evaluate the criteria of Rs 8 lakh set for PG medical candidates.
Office Memorandum shares names of Committee Members
To confirm the setting up of the committee, the Government of India has issued a formal office memorandum. The memorandum mentions the purpose of setting up the committee i.e. “to revisit the criteria for determining the economically weaker sections in terms of the provisions of the explanation to Article 15 of the Constitution. Furthermore, the memorandum also shares the names of the committee members who will be part of the panel. These include:

EWS Reservation - Key Points to be Reviewed by the Committee
In the final annexure of the Office Memorandum, the document highlights the key points or aspects that the committee will review with regards to EWS Reservation. These include:
- The criteria of EWS reservation mentioned in O.M. dated January 17, 2019 would be reviewed in line with Supreme Court's order.
- A review would also be done of the approaches that have been adopted in the country to determine EWS sections.
- After assessing everything, they would also recommend possible ideas for identifying EWS categories in future.
Earlier, the apex court had directed the Central Government to justify its stand for setting Rs 8 lakh as the financial criteria for candidates to be considered under the EWS Reservation Quota for NEET PG Counselling 2021 for AIQ.
