New eligibility criteria for NET exam, SC/ST/ OBC students with 50% marks in Master’s are eligible

According to the new announcement from the Ministry of Human Resource Development SC, ST and OBC category candidates having at least 50 per cent marks in Masters Degree will now become eligible to appear for the National Eligibility Test.

Students belonging to SC, ST or OBC category with at least 50 percent marks in their Master’s degree or any other equivalent examination from UGC recognized universities/institutes will now be able to go ahead with the National Eligibility Test in the subjects of their choice. HRD minister confirmed the news stating that the reserved candidates will now be able to seat for the examination with 5% relaxation in the minimum eligibility marks of 55% as per the provision of the UGC Regulations, 2016.

The fourth amendment in the regulation talked about minimum qualification for appointment of teachers and other academic staff in various universities and colleges and the minimum eligibility criteria was set to be 55 percent. SC, ST and OBC candidates, according to the constitution, are eligible to avail the 5 percent relaxation in marks during the recruitment of teachers in the universities and other educational institutes.

In another letter the HRD ministry has talked about the Vidyanjali school volunteer programme that was initiated in the month of June 2005 around the schools across the nation. The Vidyanjali app has been downloaded 2084 times and 1216 volunteers have logged in and registered for the 815 activities in various schools since its inception.
