For the betterment of Non-resident Odias residing in different parts of the world, the Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has planned to begin online certificate courses in Odia. The courses would be offered from the next year onwards.

Announcing about the courses Patnaik said, “I would like to announce that the government of Odisha has decided to facilitate Odia Certification Courses on online basis for the benefit of Non-Resident Odias (NROs) globally and for the students residing outside Odisha from 2017.”

Lower Odia test, curriculum of which would be equivalent to Class VIII Odia, would get conducted by the Board of Secondary Education online. Patnaik in this regard further stated, “For this, the Odisha Society of Americas (OSA) and other organizations had made an appeal to me earlier. This will benefit the second generation of Odia children living outside the countries and will carry forward the grand legacy of our language.”

According to School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, this initiative would benefit the children of Odia families immensely, who are residing overseas for various reasons. The BSE would conduct the online test of Odia language once or twice in a year. The curriculum for the Odia certificate course has also been developed and uploaded in the website of BSE.

While the NRO students would have to shell out $100 to appear for the examination online, the students living outside Odisha in the country would have to pay Rs. 1500 only.
