A few sample questions and their solutions are given below:

Q. What happens when a raw mango placed in concentrated salt solution?

Ans.

When a raw mango is placed in concentrated salt solution, it loses water due to osmosis. Water flows from solution of lower concentration to higher concentration causing raw mango to shrink.

Q. Write definition of homo polymer and co-polymer?

Ans.

Homo polymers: The addition polymers formed by the polymerization of single monomeric species are known as homo polymers. For example: Natural rubber, Nylon-6.

Copolymers: The addition polymers formed by the polymerization of two different monomers are termed as copolymers. For example: Buna-N, Buna-S, Nylon-66.

Q. Explain copper is refined with electrolytic method? Explain with necessary reaction?

Ans.

In electrolytic refining of copper, anode is made of impure copper and cathode is made of pure copper strips. An acidified solution of copper sulfate is taken as electrolyte. The net result of electrolysis is the transfer of copper in pure form from the anode to the cathode.

Anode: Cu ® Cu2+ + 2e

Cathode: Cu2+ + 2e ® Cu

Q. Explain the violet colour of [Ti(H2O)6]3+ complex on basis of the crystal field theory ?

Ans.

In ground state,Titanium has 23 electrons with outer shell electronic configuration 3d3 4s2. In the [Ti(H2O)6]3+ complex it is observed that titanium is in its +3 oxidation state. Here, single electron in the metal d orbital is in t2g level in the ground state of the complex. The next higher state available for the electron is the empty eg level. If light corresponding to the energy of yellow-green region is absorbed by the complex, the electron will excite from t2g level to eg level. Consequently, the complex appears to be violet.
