The Reliance Foundation has offered scholarships to 393 students including 111 differently-abled in order to promote them to pursue their undergraduate studies on 22 January 2014.
The Dhirubhai Ambani Scholarship Programme was instituted in 1996 has up till now awarded 10,000 students with study scholarships that covers 2,000 differently-abled students, to give them a support to get into mainstream careers.
The student who received scholarship belonged to remote areas from across the country such as J&K, Nagaland, Manipur, Meghalaya, Lakshadweep etc.
The scholarships were started in 1996 in Maharashtra and Gujarat. 2009 onwards it was extended to the entire country.
Founder and Chairperson of the foundation Nita M Ambani informed that out of the 393 students awarded had about 50 per cent are girls.
Every year, the scholarship programme helps meritorious students to follow their dreams through higher studies in diverse disciplines including medicine, engineering, law, science and other social sciences. The scholarship aid supports tuition fees and other allowances for the entire duration of the academic coursework.
