Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), in collaboration with Jadavpur University would initiate a research centre to develop technologies related to cyber security and robotics for the defence forces with the cost of 100 crores. The research centre would come up in the university campus itself and the foundation stone of Jagadish Chandra Bose Centre for Advanced Technology got laid for the same purpose.
The university, which has recently found its place in the 84th ranking of the top Asian universities, would help running the research centre in collaboration with DRDO. The centre would undergo collaborative advanced research in the field of defence forces. It would have secure systems and cognitive technologies, directed energy, unmanned and robotic technologies along with other futuristic technologies. The centre is expected to be ready in the next two years and is expected to act as the self-accounting unit of DRDO.
According to the head of the Defence Research & Development Organization, S Christopher it has been a long cooperation between DRDO and Jadavpur University along with other institutes in Kolkata through research and other utilities. He said that the centre in Jadavpur University would help the DRDO to communicate easily with them and get all the designs and inputs over the research work faster.
The collaboration would also help research scholars in the university to conduct their research in a high end state-of-the-art research laboratory supported by the DRDO and achieve greater results through shared expertise from the academicians of both the bodies.
