Research funds of Rs 150 crore Allotted under Atal Innovation Mission

Under the Atal Innovaton Mission (AIM), which is an innovation platform in the NITI Aayog, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced that an initial fund of Rs 150 crore has been allotted to the research and development work under the scheme.

Under the Atal Innovaton Mission (AIM), which is an innovation platform in the NITI Aayog, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced that an initial fund of Rs 150 crore has been allotted to the research and development work under the scheme.

The programme is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which would be an innovation promotion platform that would include academics, entrepreneurs and researches. In the budget Jaitley said, “The AIM platform will also promote a network of world-class innovation hubs. Initially a sum of Rs 150 crore will be earmarked for this purpose.” The budget has been sound in the areas of health and education and has allotted quite a lot of sum in initiating new IITs, AIIMs and IIMs.

Professor and chairman of Centre for Studies in Science Policy (CSSP), School of Social Sciences , Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi said, “The government should encourage interaction between industry, university, researchers and different players. That is more important than simply a boost to entrepreneurs.”

Jaitley pointed out in the budget that six more AIIMS like institutions would set up in Jammu& Kashmir, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Assam. Bihar would get another institute modeled in the AIIMS structure.
