The admission policy of SASTRA University has the triple ingredient of merit, transparency and the right student-mix. The merit of the students is ascertained by their performance in the JEE - Main (2014) and aggregate score in the +2 exams. SASTRA is the only university that uses the JEE Main (2014) Scores with a weightage of 25% and provides 75% weightage to the normalised +2 aggregate scores for 70% of its B.Tech.seats. For example: If a student secures a JEE Main Score of 185 and a normalized +2 aggregate of 95%, the combined score of the student will be (0.25*185) + (0.75*95) = 117.5. The combined score of a student will be used to determine the SASTRA Rank and admission will be based on the SASTRA Rank secured.
The remaining 30% seats will be filled based on the normalised +2 scores. The new admission policy of SASTRA is free from its own entrance exams and ensures meritocracy by using scores and marks from a system that enjoys the highest level of public confidence. The transparency is ensured by conducting counselling for admissions in which students are called based on their ranks secured and courses allotted based on vacancy position. The entire process is publicly displayed and shared in public domain.
To provide a good balance to the student community, (i) 20% (10%+10%) of intake will be offered to the students from Trichy and Thanjavur Districts provided the applicant has completed both X and XII from any school located in Trichy or Thanjavur District. (ii) 50% of the intake will be offered to those who complete X and XII in schools within Tamilnadu (Puducherry included) and (iii) the remaining 30% will be for students who have completed X and XII in schools outside Tamilnadu. The application process has begun and last date for submitting completed application forms is June 7 and rank list will be released on June 7 at 9:00p.m. and counselling on June 16,17,18 & 19.
Likewise, SASTRA uses CLAT-2014 scores for admission to its B.A./B.Com./B.B.B., LLB programmes in addition to +2 aggregate scores in the ratio of 25% & 75%. That SASTRA uses such reputed competitive exams scores has won public acclaim and confidence instead of conducting its own entrance exams which has nowadays become not only aan academic burden but also a heavy financial burden for the applicants. All application forms and admission details are available at www.sastra.edu.
