Lore India Foundation Scholarship Trust has announced the scholarship worth Rupees 55 million for bright students of standard 10 to 12, and the initiative is being promoted by top academicians of the country, encompassing IIT-Delhi professor Seyed E Hasnain, former UGC chairman Hari Gautam, and vice-chancellor of National Law University Ranbir Singh, among others.
This scholarship aims to improve the infrastructure, install new learning technologies and resources and help children with brilliant minds especially those who belong to poor families or disadvantaged background.
More than 100 children will be awarded the undergraduate scholarships ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 50 lakh, based on participant’s performance in the learning aptitude test (LAT). LAT is an examination being designed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), to test child’s aptitude or innate brainpower in contrast to their academic learning.
This aid will help Scholars to pursue higher education in any discipline. Besides, qualified candidates can also use the endowments for taking help of coaching and extra guidance to get trained for the competitive examinations.
Besides, participants, the programme shall also reward and recognize those schools which will receive the high rank, based on the performance of their students in LAT. The top-ranking three schools shall be awarded with monetary prize of Rs 25 lakh, Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh respectively.
This scholarship programme is to be a unique large-scale initiative involving huge amount of grants, with no involvement of Indian government in this scheme.
The scholarship amount is set up as an interest-generating trust fund available to the scholar to draw upon for a period of seven years from the date of the award. The first second and third ranked students will get Rs 50 lakh, Rs 30 lakh and Rs 20 lakh respectively. Those between fourth and fifty-third ranks will get Rs 5 lakh each and rest will get Rs 3 lakh.
