    Question1 - Profit of Rs 936000 has to be divided among three partners Anirudhha, Balwant and Charudatta in the ratio 2:3:5. How much does Charudatta get?

    Explanation:- Let the share of Anirudha, Balwant, and Charudatta is 2x, 3x, and 5x respectively.

    2x + 3x + 5x=936000;

    10x= 936000; => x= 93600.

    Hence, the amount received by charudatta = 5*93600 = Rs. 468000.

    Question 2 - The price of an article is cut by 36%, to restore to its original value, the new price must be increased by

    (a) 56.25 percent

    (b) 36 percent

    (c) 26.47 percent

    Explanation:- Suppose, the original price= Rs. x;

    Discounted price =Rs. 0.64x;

    To restore to its original value % increase= [x-0.64x]*100/0.64x = 56.25%

    Question 3 - The mean of marks secured by 50 students in division A of class X is 61, 25 students of division B is 57 and that of 50 students of division C is 55. What will be the mean of marks of the students of three divisions of Class X?

    (b) 56.4

    (c) 59.2

    (d) 57.8

    Ans.:-d.

    Explanation:-

    Mean of the students of three divisions in Class X= Total marks obtained / Total no. of students;

    = [61 * 50 + 25 * 57 + 50 * 55]/ [50 + 25 + 50].

    = 7225/125 = 57.8.

    Question 4 - If the selling price is Rs 1680 after getting a discount of 16%, what was the marked price?

    (a) Rs 2000

    (b) Rs 1948.8

    (c) Rs 1411.2

    (d) Rs 1448

    Ans.:-a.

    Explanation:- Let Marker price = Rs. x;

    Discount price= 0.16x;

    x – 0.16x = 1680; => 0.84x = 1680;

    x = Rs. 2000;

    Question5 - The sum of 6xy(2x - 4z) , 3yz(2x - 3z) and 4xz(3y - 2y2) is

    (a) 12x2y - 6xyz - 9yz2 + 8xy2z

    (b) 12x2y - 6xyz + 9yz2 - 8xy2z

    (c) 12x2y - 6xyz - 9yz2 - 8xy2z

    (d) 12x2y + 6xyz - 9yz2 - 8xy2z

    Explanation:-

    = 6xy*(2x - 4z) + 3yz*(2x - 3z) + 4xz*(3y - 2y2);

    =12x2y – 24xyz + 6xyz – 9yz2 + 12xyz – 8 xy2z;

    = 12x2y - 6xyz - 9yz2 - 8xy2z;

    Question 6 - When a discount of 25% is given on a cruise trip, the profit is 41%. If the discount is 26%, then the profit is

    (a) 39.12 percent

    (b) 67 percent

    (c) 94.88 percent

    (d) 11.24 percent

    Explanation:-  Suppose, the marked price = Rs. x;

    After discount, selling price = 0.75x;

    After cutting profit, the purchasing price = Rs. 0.75 * 0.59x = 0.4425x;

    Following the condition given in the question-

    After discount, selling price will be= 0.74x;

    % profit = [0.74x – 0.4425x]*100/ 0.4425 = 67.23%.

    Question 7 - If (cotA - cosecA)2 = x, then the value of x is

     (a) (1 - cosA)/(1 + cosA)

    (b) (1 - sinA)/(1 + sinA)

    (c) (1 - secA)/(1 + secA)

    (d) (1 - cosecA)/(1 + cosecA)

    Ans.:-

    Explanation:- x = (cotA - cosecA)2;

    x = cot2A + cosec2A – 2 cotA* cosecA;

    Question 8 - A does 30% of a work in 30 days. He then calls in B and they together finish the remaining work in 20 days. How long B alone would take to do the whole work?

    (a) 40 days

    (b) 80 days

    (c) 120 days

    (d) 20 days

    Ans.:-a.

    Explanation:- A’s efficiency = Amount of work done by him/ no. of days;

    A’s efficiency = 1 * 30% / 30 days = 1%;

    (A+B)’s efficiency = 1 * 70 % / 70 days = 3.5%;

    Hence, B’s efficiency = 3.5 % - 1% = 2.5%.

    No of days taken by B to finish the whole work alone = 1 / 2.5% = 1000/25= 40 days;

    Question 9 - If 2x - 6 ≤ x - 3 and 1+3x < 4x + 4, then x can take which of the following values?

    (a) 4

    (b) -4

    (c) -6

    (d) 2

    Ans.:-

    Explanation:- considering first inference :  2x - 6 ≤ x – 3;

    = >  x ≤ 3; ---- eq.(i.)

    Considering second inference: 1+3x < 4x + 4; = > x > -3; ------ eq.(ii.)

    Considering both equation in mind, x  should be equal to 2.

    Question 10 - If cotA = x, then the value of x is

    (a) √(sec2A + 1)

    (b) √(cosec2A + 1)

    (c) √(sec2A - 1)

    (d) √(cosec2A - 1)

    Ans.:-d.

    Explanation:- 1 + cot2A = cosec2A;

    Hence, option (d.) will be the correct option.

    Question 11 - If 14.35 - (1.956 - x ) - 83.92 = 3.858 then what is the value of x?

    (a) -92.456

    (b) 75.384

    (c) 71.472

    (d) 104.084

    Explanation:- 14.35 - (1.956 - x ) - 83.92 = 3.858;

    14.35 – 1.956 + x -83.92 = 3.858;

    x = 3.858 – 14.35 + 1.956 + 83.92;

    x = 75.384;

    Question 12 - In a Rhombus ABCD, measure of angle CAB is 25°, what is the measure of angle ABC?

    (a) 65°

    (b) 50°

    (c) 40°

    (d) 130°

    Ans.:-

    Explanation:-  if angle CAB = 25, then angle OBA = 180 – (90 + 25)= 65.

    Since, diagonal bisect the angles in rhombus; hence, angle ABC = 130.

     

    Question 13 - The volume of a cuboid is 320 cubic cm. Find its total surface area if its length and breadth are 10 cm and 8 cm respectively?

    (a) 608 sq cms

    (b) 304 sq cms

    (c) 152 sq cms

    (d) 456 sq cms

    Explanation:-  Suppose, l = 10 cm and b = 8 cm. Let the height of cuboid = h cm.

    Volume of cuboid = l * b* h;

    h = 320 / 10*8 = 4 cm.

    Total surface area= 2*(lb + bh+ hl);

    = 2 * (10*8 + 8 * 4 + 4 * 10) = 304 sq. cm.

    Question 14 - The circumference of a circle is equal to the perimeter of an equilateral triangle. If the radius of the circle is 7 cm what is the length of the side of the equilateral triangle?

    (a) 22/3 cm

    (b) 44/3 cm

    (c) 44 cm

    (d) 22 cm

    Ans.:-b.

    Explanation:- suppose, the side of equilateral triangle = a cm.

    a = 2*pi*7/3 = 44/3 cm.

    Question 15 - The slope of the line passing through the points (2,-1) and (x,5) is -1. Find x?

    (a) 4

    (b) -4

    (c) -8

    (d) 8

    Ans.:-b.

    Explanation:- [5 – (-1)]/ [x -2] = -1;

    x = -4

    Question 16 - The sum of the ages of father and son at present is 33. Two years ago the product of their ages was 28. What is the age of the father and the son?

    (a) 26, 7

    (b) 30, 3

    (c) 29, 4

    (d) 32, 1

    Ans.:-b.

    Explanation:- Let the father age is x years, then son’s age = 33 –x.

    (x-2)* (31-x) = 28;

    31x –x2 -62 + 2x = 28;

    x2 -33x + 90 =0;

    x2 -30x -3x + 90 =0;

    x(x -30) -3 (x -30) =0; = > x = 3, 30;

    Hence, Son’s age = 3 years;

    Father’s age = 30 years.

    Question 17 - Rameshwar goes on a trip on his motor-cycle and rides for 405 kms. If he rides for 6 hours at a speed of 45 km/hr, find at what speed he travels for the remaining 3 hours of the journey?

    (a) 55 km/hr

    (b) 52 km/hr

    (c) 45 km/hr

    (d) 40 km/hr

    Explanation:-  Distance covered in 6 hours= 45*6= 270 kms.

    Hence, the remaining speed = (405 -270)/3 = 135/3 = 45 kmph.

    Question 18 - There is 40% increase in an amount in 8 years at simple interest. What will be the compound interest of Rs. 10000 after 3 years at the same rate?

    (a) Rs 1576.25

    (b) Rs 6222

    (c) Rs 7881.25

    (d) Rs 4728.75

    Ans.:-b.

    Explanation:- Let the principal amount = Rs. x; and interest rate = r%

    1.40x = x*r*8/100;  = > r = 140/8 = 17.5%;

    Question 19 - If tan π/3 + cosec π/6 = x, then x is

    (a) (1-√2)/√2

    (b) (√3+4)/2√3

    (c) √3+2

    (d) (2√2-1)/2

    Explanation:- put π = 180 in the given equation-

    x = tan 60 + cosec 30 = 2 + √3

    Question 20 - If 4x - 7y = 3 and 2x - y = 9, then x - y is.

    Explanation:-

    4x - 7y = 3    --------------- eq. (i.)

    2x - y = 9   --------------- eq. (ii.)

    Multiply by 2 in the equation (ii.) and subtract from eq.(i)-

    -5y = -15 = > y=3; and x = 6;

    Hence, x-y = 3

    Question 21 - If the length of the side of an equilateral triangle is 6 cm, what is its area?
