South Asian University to Organize its First Convocation

    The South Asian University (SAU) is going to host its first convocation on 24 December 2013. The new Maldivian President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will preside the event and, the Prime Minister (of India) Manmohan Singh will be the chief guest on the occasion.

    Established by SAARC in 2010, SAU will award degree to its first and second batches of students. On the occasion, the SAU will also honor the toppers of various programs with the newly instituted gold medal awards.

    SAU was established as a research and post-graduate university. Currently, it offers postgraduate courses in science and social science subjects. The university functions with a three-fold agenda -- building a culture of understanding and regional consciousness; nurturing a new class of liberal, bright and quality leadership; and building the capacity of the region in science, technology and other disciplines.
