The one of the oldest universities of Netherland, University of Groningen signed an agreement on 27 November with the Presidency University, Kolkata regarding the permission granted to the selected students to go and pursue internship in Netherlands, as informed by an official.
As per the deal between both Universities, 3 students from science stream and 1 from humanities stream are granted to go to the Netherlands for an internship of 10-months duration.
Currently only 4 students have been picked, however attempts of adding two more students, each from both science and Humanities stream is being made.
The expenses of the tuition fees, boarding and other miscellaneous expenses will be undertaken by the Host University as informed by the Vice Chancellor, Malabika Sarkar of the Presidency University. The planning is also being made for research association of the two universities in both science and humanities.
The Presidency University, earlier recognized as Presidency College is a 196 years old. On 22 Aug, 2013 it marked its first convocation after getting upgraded to a university in the year 2010.
The Presidency University was set up in 1817 and still has its roots in the Hindu College. However, it became‘Presidency College’ in the year 1855.Lately, the former Left Front state government elevated it by turning it into a university in 2010.
The college boasts Its alumni comprising Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Subhas Chandra Bose, Satyajit Ray, Marxist leader JyotiBasu along with India's first president Rajendra Prasad.
