The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is going to conduct the CDS 2019 (I) Exam on 3 February 2019 as per the official notofication. Since there will be a penalty for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the exam, it is essential to know how to reduce the impact of negative marking on your success.

For the benefit of CDS aspirants, here are some useful tips for the aspirants in this regard. They are as given below.

1. Practice is the Key: To avoid negative marking, one has to be good at one’s preparation. Solving questions using short cuts, especially Mathematics, helps the candidates in saving valuable time. The saved time enables the candidates in allotting more time in solving difficult level questions and arriving at right answer.

2. Avoid Guessing the Answers: We all know that success is nothing but 99% hard work and 1% luck. So avoid guessing the answers in your examination. Attempt only those questions where you are sure about the correct answer. Guessing will decrease your marks because of negative marking.

3. Read the Question and the Option Properly: Sometimes due to nervousness and panic, we don’t clearly read the question and marks the wrong option; So it is better to read the question twice instead of marking the wrong answer.

4. Don’t get stuck: Don’t get stuck to a question if you are not able to solve it. Wastage of time on a single question is of no use. So, it is better to leave the question and move to the next.

5. Be Accurate: Accuracy is more important than the number of questions attempted. So try solving those sections where you are assured of being correct.

6. Solve the Easier Questions First: The questions are divided into three levels - Easy, Medium and difficult.  So, it is suggested to solve the easier questions first. It will make you confident and also gives you the idea of how many questions you need to attempt further.

7. Exams before the Real Exam: Test series and mock test papers that are available online should be solved by the students so that they can know if they are able to solve the paper within the time limit. It will also help you know the pattern and record your progress which identifies your mistakes too.

8. Don't Overwrite: As the candidates have to mark the answers in OMR sheets, they should try to prevent overwriting or eliminating an answer which they have already marked. Else, it will be measured as incorrect, resulting in negative marks.

If the CDS (I) 2019 Exam aspirants follow the above mentioned tips before and during the examination, they will surely minimize the impact of the negative marking scheme.
