The number of students wishing to enter into a medical college has increased visibly in the last few years. The best medical colleges of Tamil Nadu offer a variety of disciplines under the field of medical science, to help students specialise in the field of their choice.

Here are some of the best colleges of Tamil Nadu, which have been evaluated on quality of education, infrastructure faculty and placement.  

Christian Medical College
Located in Vellore, CMC is the second best medical college of India. Since the conception of the idea of this college in 1918, CMC has grown from a very small medical school to a full-fledged College. The College is completely administered by the Christian Medical College Vellore Association. It fulfils the dreams of of 60 students every year through its course in MBBS. 

Stanley Medical College
It is a Government Medical College, which was established in 1938. SMC is ranked amongst the top medical colleges of India due to the quality of education it offers. It uses latest methodologies and has an excellent infrastructure. The seeds of the hospital were sown at the time of East India Company around 200 years ago.

Madras Medical College
Established in 1835, Madras Medical College is one of the oldest medical colleges of the country. It offers a variety of courses including BSc Nursing and BPharma along with MBBS. Also, the college has various departments which enable students get specialise in different medical disciplines. The college is affiliated to the University of Madras.

Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute
It is a renowned medical institute of India, which is situated in Chennai. Founded in 1985 as a medical college, it was converted to a complete university in 2006. Due to its relationship with Partners Harvard Medical International established in 1997, it has been accredited by the Joint Commission International. Today this University comprises 9 Constituent Colleges with more than 45 departments that offer 85 courses in medical studies.

PSG Institute of Medical Sciences & Research
This institute was initiated in 1985 by the PSG & Sons’ Charities on the occasion of their 60th anniversary. It has been recognised by the Medical Council of India, the General Medical Council of UK and the Srilankan Medical Council. Owing to its reputation, it is also listed in the Directory of World Medical Schools created by the WHO. 

Coimbatore Medical College
Established in 1966, it is a medical institute that is funded and managed by the State Government. The courses offered by the college are recognised by the Medical Council of India. It consists of over 30 departments providing specialised courses in different disciplines of medical science. It offers courses in MD, MS, MCh, Para Medical programs and PhD in a variety of medical disciplines.

Tirunelveli Medical College
This college dates back to 1965. Besides offering the degree in MBBS, this college offers numerous other post graduate and diploma courses in medical sciences. All the 150 students who are admitted into the college are short listed on the basis of merit in the premedical entrance examination.
