Two IIT-M students have received the fourth Annual Nissan Global Foundation Scholarship, awarded by both Nissan and Indian Institute of Technology.
Both Students Suraj Vallamkonda and Sripriya Kalidoss, belonging to Mechanical Engineering department, were picked by a united committee of Nissan Global Foundation and IIT Madras (IIT-M). The duo would get a monetary grant of Rs 1.2 lakh for two years.
Vallamkonda and Kalidoss have also received the opportunity to go Japan and visit Nissan headquarters, production plant and its R&D centre.
In addition chance to get appointed as an intern at Renault Nissan Technology and Business Centre India Pvt Ltd (RNTBCI) is also granted to both of them.
The process of selection to offer scholarship is a meticulous process that involves discussions and interviews by IIT Professors as well as officials of Nissan Global Foundation who judge the technical and management abilities of students.
More than 50 candidates competed for the this valuable scholarship among which finally these two were selected.
Beyond the scholarship programme Nissan is also enthusiastically engaged in joint research projects with IIT-M in complex areas of automobile technology.
'Nissan Support Program' carries R&D projects in the areas of engineering, science, management, humanities and social sciences at IIT-Madras.
On the basis of the proposals laid by the young faculty of IIT-Madras, about 5 projects are preferred for each year funding.
This highlights Nissan's existence and assurance in the education and research areas in India.
As informed by the issue of a press release, above 10 projects is being carried out at present, under this scheme.
