President Pranab Mukherjee recently gave assent to establish two Central Universities in Bihar. The president recently gave assent to the Central Universities (Amendment) Act, 2014 which was tabled to amend the Central Universities Act, 2009. According to this amendment the territorial jurisdiction of the Central University of Bihar would be expanded to the South Bihar and there would be an establishment of University in North Bihar as well.
The new amendment has an insertion as section 3B after its Section 3A of the Central Universities Act, 2009. According to the amendment the “Central University of Bihar” would be known as the “Central University of South Bihar” and its territorial jurisdiction would further extend to the south of the River Ganges in the state of Bihar. There would be another university to come up which would be a body corporate of the Central University of Bihar which would be named as “Mahatma Gandhi Central University”. The territorial jurisdiction of the university would be spread across the north of the Rive Ganges in the State of Bihar.
The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has given his assent to the bill and the amendment would soon become functional.
