The central universities at this moment have over 6,000 vacancies that are to be filled.

The Chairman of the UGC Ved Prakash in a letter to all the Vice Chancellors/Directors of UGC funded central universities, state universities and deemed universities urged them to take “serious effort in ensuring that all vacant positions are filled before the start of the next academic session, well in time for the selected persons to be available for the instructional programmes of the new academic session. I hope that the spirit of this letter will be appreciated and that there should be no opportunity for the UGC to withhold the General Development Grant to the universities.”

Professor Ved Prakash taken into light the instructional work that is being handled by teachers who are either working as acting VC or are on a temporary or part time basis in many of the universities. It is affecting the overall academic balance of the university proceedings and thus should be taken care of by the universities as soon as possible. These temporary teachers who are presently elevated to the top positions can do no better than delivering assigned lectures and are unable in taking any self-professional development initiatives. Hence it has become must to fill up the vacancies with academically and professionally qualified persons for which the universities should think beyond geographical boundaries.
