Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has issued a notice to extend the last date of application for UPSC Engineering Services Examination 2016 to 31 March 2016 which was earlier 25 March 2016.
Indian Engineering Services abbreviated as IES are the civil services that meet the technical and managerial functions of the Government of India. Like most countries, the Government of India recruits its civil servants and officials on the basis of merit, the middle management positions in the bureaucracy are filled through competitive exams. Large number of candidates takes these exams, competing for limited posts. IES officers are selected by the union government on the recommendations made by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). A combined four-stage competitive examination (comprising six tests), called the Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is conducted by the UPSC for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services.

Information from Official Notification:
"The Last date for submission of on-line applications has been extended upto 31st March, 2016 (in placed of 25.03.2016) till 23.59Hrs, after which the link will be disabled.
Note : Applicants who opt for "Pay by Cash" mode should print the system generated Pay-in Slip during Part-II registration and deposit the fee at the counter of SBI Branch on the next working day only. "Pay by Cash" mode option will be deactivated on 30.03.2016 (23.59 hrs) i.e. one day before the extended last date for submission of online-application. However, applicants who have generated Pay-in-Slip before it is de-activated may pay at the counter of SBI Branch during banking hours on the closing date i.e. on 31.03.2016. Such applicants who are unable to pay by cash on the closing date i.e. during banking hours to SBI Branch, for reason whatsoever, even if holding a valid Pay-in Slip, will have no other offline option but to opt for online Debit/credit Card or Internet Banking Payment mode on the closing date i.e. on 31.03.2016(23.59Hrs)."
"The Commission has included the posts of AEE Gr 'A' in Corps of EME, Ministry of Defence in the Scheme of Engineering Services Examination, 2016. Hence, Departmental candidates of Corps of EME, Min of Defence may apply for ESE, 2016 by availing age relaxation upto 5 years as admissible under Rule 5(b) of ESE, 2016 to the departmental candidates."
