The Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum has decided to take technological studies to a next level by establishing “VTU National Academy for Skill Development" at Dandeli, Karwar district. For this expansion the Minister for Higher Education and Tourism R V Deshpande, will lay the foundation stone for the new institute in March.
The new academy is meant for both the Technical Students and General Disciplines. The aim of the new institute is to infuse set of skills in technological students that are much required when the candidate has to enter the market to work. The life skills, communication skills, technical skills, creative skills, critical thinking other many other required skill sets will be incorporated in the student to be industry-ready.
Besides, VTU has also initiated to set up a "National Academy for Skill Development" that would innovatively train the students with ‘general skills’ in different disciplines than only technical.
For the proposed VTU National Academy for Skill Development, a meticulous training syllabus with relevant skills sets have been framed, which is meant especially for technical students to meet their immediate job requirements, told H Maheshappa, Vice Chancellor, VTU. The institute will offer 2 categories of training programmes, one being specific entry-level programme and the other to be an advanced training programme. Furthermore, the institute shall also provide e-governance and corporate training to the government functionaries and private entities.
This upcome multi-campus institution will cater students from across the nation and this academy will also be a Trainer Academy, Research and Development Center for Agriculture, Knowledge Hub for Skill Development, and Consultant for Industries, all to be offered through these skills training institutes alone.
