The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has been recognised as the 'most reputable' institution in India, according to the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings 2025.
In the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings 2025, IISc has been ranked as the highest-reputed Indian institution. On a global scale, IISc is placed in the 201-300 category.
Following IISc, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Delhi and IIT Madras are ranked next in the same category. The only other Indian institution included in this list is Siksha 'O' Anusandhan, which also falls within the 201-300 category.

Global Rankings
- This year, ten new countries have been included compared to last year. Four countries made their debut in the World Reputation Rankings: Chile, Malaysia, Poland, and Portugal.
- Harvard continues to hold the top spot globally for the 14th year in a row and shares the number one position for a new voter diversity measure with Oxford and Cambridge, further cementing its reputation as the most prestigious university in the US.
- Oxford is now tied for second place, marking the highest position for a UK institution since 2015. It shares this rank with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
- Stanford University and the University of Cambridge both share the fourth position.
- The University of California, Berkeley has secured the sixth position, with Princeton University following closely at seventh.
- Tsinghua University also retains the eighth position globally for academic reputation.
- Yale University and the University of Tokyo have secured the ninth and tenth positions, respectively, completing the top 10.
- LMU Munich, KU Leuven, Sorbonne University, the University of Melbourne, the University of Hong Kong, and the University of Manchester have all entered the top 50 most influential university brands this year.
- This year, Times Higher Education (THE) ranked 300 institutions from 38 countries and territories using a new methodology. This new methodology provides more in-depth insights into university prestige worldwide, according to Times Higher Education.
