Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla of Madras High Court on 29 July 2010 maintained that registered practitioners in siddha, ayurveda, homeopathy and unani are eligible to practise surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthesiology, ENT, ophthalmology, etc. The decision was taken when a court petition was filed by Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical Graduates. The circular of the government had already established that institutionally qualified practitioners of siddha, ayurveda, unani and homeopathy are eligible to practice the respective system with modern scientific medicine after citing section 17(3)B of the Indian Medicine Central Council Act 1970. The circular was referred to while passing the judgement.
