Arrest of Sri Lankan Minister Douglas Devananda Sought

A petition was filed at the Madras High Court on 10 June 2010 seeking the arrest of Sri Lankan Minister Douglas Devananda who was on a state visit to India. He is being sought by the Chennai police in connection with three pending cases with charges of murder and abduction. He was labelled as absconding accused and a proclaimed offender by the lower courts in Chennai over two decades ago. The petition was filed by P Pugalenthi, the counsel who represents Nalini Sriharan, a convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
