Aviation Regulator Sought Explanation from Airlines for Raising Fares
Aviation regulatory authority issued notices to airlines demanding explanation on hightened airfares.
The aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued notices to all airline CEOs on 17 November 2010 asking them to provide an explanation for charging excessive fares from travellers. The notice was issued after a probe by the regulator that yielded that the prima facie, domestic airfares from 15 November 2010 were higher compared to the previous few weeks even when there was no hike in operational cost. The airlines are expected to send their explanation by 19 November 2010. A complete study of domestic air travel demand-supply situation was also ordered.
