The Union Cabinet on 10 November 2017 gave its approval for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Philippines on agriculture and related fields.
The cabinet was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The MoU is expected to improve bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture, mutually benefiting both India and Philippines.
• The MoU will promote understanding of best agricultural practices in the two countries, which will in turn help achieve better productivity along with improved global market access.
• Under the agreement, the two countries would be cooperating in the field of rice production and processing, multi cropping system, dryland farming systems, bio-organic farming, solid and water conservation and management, soil fertility, sericulture, agro forestry and livestock improvement.
• The agreement also provides for the established of a Joint Working Group, which will comprise equal number of representatives from both the nations.
• The group would meet once every two years alternatively in India and Philippines.
