Dr Bimal Jalan Committee

SEBI on 8 Feb 2010 constituted a six-member committee, under the chairmanship of Dr Bimal Jalan, former RBI Governor to stock exchanges' ownership and governance structure. The SEBI board at its meeting on 22 Dec 2009 had approved the constitution of such a committee.

Three-member Committee to Inquire into the Maoist Attack

The West Bengal government on 22 Feb 2010 announced its decision to set up a three-member committee to inquire into the Maoist attack on the camp at Silda in Paschim Medinipur district on 15Feb 2010, in which 24 Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) personnel were killed.  The committee will be headed by State Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen.

National Transport Development Policy Committee

In Indian Government in Feb 2010 decided to set up a national transport development policy committee to create a policy environment that will encourage competitive pricing and coordination between alternative modes of transport. Dr Rakesh Mohan, former Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs and Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India will chair the committee.

Rammohan Committee Report

The one-man committee comprising former chief of the Border Security Force, E.N. Rammohan, constituted on 8 April 2010 submitted its report on 26 April 2010. The committee submitted report to Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram on the April 6 massacre of 76 security personnel by Maoists in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh.

Committee to Examine Gadrasil Vaccine

Indian Union Health Ministry on 10 April 2010 constituted a three-member committee to probe whether ethical guidelines were violated during the clinical trials of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine, Gardasil, meant to prevent cervical cancer. The inquiry committee including Dr S P Aggarwal, former Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Dr Suneeta Mittal, Head of the Department, Obstetrics and Gynaecology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Ranjit Roy Chaudhury, leading clinical pharmacologist is expected to submit its report within two months.

CCSR Submitted Reports

A government-appointed panel that was asked to review the balance of power between the central and state governments submitted its report to Home Minister P. Chidambaram on 19 April 2010. The UPA government constituted the Centre-State Relations (CCSR) in April 2007 under the leadership of Justice (retd) Madan Mohan Punchhi.

Coca-Cola Accused of Causing Environmental Damage

A high-power committee headed by additional chief secretary K Jayakumar was appointed by Kerala government. The report submitted by the committee to the state water resources minister N K Premachandran on 22 March 2010 accused Coca-Cola of causing damages to the tune of Rs 216.26 crore through the operation of its bottling plant in Plachimada in Palakkad district.

B K Chaturvedi Committee

In its second round of recommendations to the Indian government in March 2010 the B K Chaturvedi committee, set up by the Prime Minister to resolve issues in the roads sector called for a bucket-based approach to resolve disputes affecting the sector. The committee suggested three buckets for the size of claims by way of which the cases can be taken up by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Report on Bauxite Mine Project in the Niyamgiri Hills

Forest Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests on 12 March 2010 considered the report submitted by the three member committee constituted by the Ministry. The committee was constituted with a forestry official, a former government wildlife official and an independent sociology expert to inspect the site of the bauxite mine project in the Niyamgiri Hills of Orissa.

Committee Report on BARC Fire Submitted

Investigation Committee set up by BARC to study the cause of the fire broke out on 29 Dec 2009 in a chemistry lab at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai, told the Lok Sabha on 3 March 2010 that the fire was caused by a low intensity explosive energy being released from accidental mixing of small quantities of reactive chemicals stored in the Chemical laboratory. The report submitted by the Committee includes several recommendations to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.

K. Jayakumar Committee Report

The Indian Cabinet approved of the K. Jayakumar Committee report on the ecological damage caused by the Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Company at Plachimada, Kerala on 30 June 2010. The 14 member committee was constituted under the chairmanship of K. Jayakumar to look into the ecological damages caused by the Coca-Cola plant at Plachimada in Palakkad district of Kerala.

Committee for Implementation of Pitroda Committee

On 7 June 2010 the Telecom Commission decided to constitute an internal committee under the chairmanship of Member (Services), Department of Telecom (DoT). The committee is expected to give its recommendations on implementation of the Sam Pitroda Committee Report for improving performance of BSNL.

Defense Technology commission Set Up

The Indian government on 13 May 2010 decided to set up a new defense technology commission with the Defence Minister, A.K. Antony as its Chairman to boost the defense research in the country. This is an initiative to ensure effective participation of the private sector in Defense technology.

Committee Formed to Review TRP System.

A Committee headed by Dr. Amit Mitra, Secretary General FICCI was constituted on 12 May 2010 by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The committee is expected to review existing Television Rating Point (TRP) system in India and suggest measures to bring in place an effective mechanism for a transparent TRP system. TRPs in India impact the programming content of TV channels.

Commission to Develop Indigenous medicines

The Indian government decided to set up a Pharmacopoeia Commission at a cost of Rs. 14.08 crore on 13 May 2010. The objective is to develop indigenous medicines for raising the country's share in the $62-billion global herbal drug market.

Committee Report in Favour of Gian Sagar Medical College

A three-member committee that was set up by Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to look into the validity of recommendations made by the Medical Council of India (MCI) for renewing the licence of Gian Sagar Medical College in Patiala submitted its report on 3 May 2010. According to the committee report there were no major grounds on which the college could have been denied recognition.

Committee to Design Middle Office Modalities
