Coronavirus News Live Updates: On Tuesday i.e. 27th April 2021, India reported 3.2 lakh new COVID-19 cases along with 2771 Deaths in the last 24 hours as per the data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The ministry also said that during the same period, 2,51,827 patients recovered from Coronavirus and were discharged from hospitals across the country. The latest increase has taken India’s total COVID-19 case tally to 1,76,36,307, while the number of active cases stands at 28,82,204.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi spoke to US President Joe Biden to discuss COVID-19 situation in both the countries. During the call, President Biden assured India of all the medial aid and support from US required to continue its fight against the pandemic. Medical supplies and aid continued to pour into India with a batch of ventilators and oxygen concentrators sent by the UK arriving at New Delhi today.

Along with this, the Gujarat CMO has also announced additional restrictive measures to curb spread of COVID-19. As part of this, Public access to religious places across the state has been closed and only administrators & priests will now be allowed to perform puja. Public bus transport will continue in the entire state with 50% capacity. Apart from this, maximum 50 people have been allowed at weddings & 20 people at funerals allowed.

With COVID-19 case numbers increasing every day, the Gujarat State Government has announced that strict measures and restrictions will now be imposed to curb the spread of the contagion. As part of this, the state government has decided to impose night curfew in additional cities of Himmatnagar, Palanpur, Navsari, Valsad, Porbandar, Botad, Viramgam, Chhota Udaipur and Veraval – Somnath. The night curfew would be in place from 8 PM to 6 AM. This is in addition to the night curfew imposed in 20 cities earlier, taking the overall tally of cities under curfew to 29.

The Supreme Court of India today allowed Vedanta Group to operate the oxygen plant at its Sterlite copper plant in Tuticorin to meet the oxygen shortage in the country. The apex court termed pandemic situation a national emergency and permitted Sterlite Plant to be used to produce Oxygen under supervision of a monitoring committee of local administration and environment experts.

Looking at the fast paced spread of COVID-19, the Punjab Government has decided to extend the curfew hours that have been imposed in the state further. From today onwards, the night curfew in Punjab will commence from 6 PM onwards instead of 8 PM as was done earlier. To ensure curfew hours are followed by people, the state government has directed all shops in the state to close down by 5 PM in the evening. The stricter curbs come in view of a higher positivity rate in the state.

Latest reports have confirmed that the new cases of COVID-19 reported in the national capital in the last 24 hours has touched 20,201 taking the overall active case number to 92,358. On similar lines, in last 24 hours, 380 more patients have succumbed to COVID-19 taking the overall fatality count to 14,628.
