Vascon Bought Stake in GMP Technical Solutions

Real estate developer Vascon Engineers Ltd announced on 8 August 2010 that it bought 90 per cent of the shares of GMP Technical Solutions Pvt Ltd worth Rs 62.60 crore. GMP offers heating, ventilation and air conditioning design and supply, electrical and building management systems, epoxy and vinyl floorings and interlocking and access controls etc.

RIM to Offer Metadata

The Canadian firm Research in Motion (RIM), makers of the BlackBerry recently agreed to offer “metadata” and relevant information to Indian security agencies, which will enable them in lawful interception. This initiative was adopted by RIM to do away with the logjam regarding the use of the Blackberry services in India.

Rcom & Acer to Launch Notebook

Reliance Communications and Acer recently declared their objective to jointly launch a netbook with embedded wireless broadband connectivity. Acer and Reliance Communications together devised internet connectivity sollution for the indian market which would do away with the need for plugging any external device for Internet access.

ONGC Re-entered East Coast Block

After a gap of three years Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) re-entered its successful East Coast Block. Previously ONGC had to put on hold its ultra-deepwater exploratory work in the Block KG-DWN-98/2, where it has struck natural gas in deep sea (UD1 well) as a result of deepwater rig shortage.

Glenmark Entered into Settlement with Sepracor Inc

Glenmark on 9 August 2010 entered into an agreement to resolve a patent-related suit with Sepracor Inc over its insomnia drug Lunesta as a part of its 4th settlement in less than two years. Glenmark had triggered a patent-infringement suit against it by Sepracor when it sought permission from the US regulatory to sell Eszopiclone tablets which are the generic version of Lunesta.

Agreement between JK Paper & HP

Dr Reddy's launched Cresp

Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd launched Cresp, which is the first generic darbepoetin alfa drug in the world on 9 August 2010. Cresp would be used for the treatment of anaemia cuased by chronic kidney disease and anaemia caused by chemotherapy.

Brandhouse Oviesse launched OVS Industry

Brandhouse Oviesse launched the Italian brand ‘OVS Industry' in India on 9 August 2010. Brandhouse Oviesse  is the joint venture between Brandhouse Retails (the retail arm of S. Kumar's Nationwide Ltd) and Italian apparel retailer Oviesse.

RBI Sanctioned BoR & ICICI Merger

The Reserve Bank of India on 12 August 2010 sanctioned the merger of Bank of Rajasthan with ICICI Bank. Following the sanction all branches of the old generation private sector bank would come to function as branches of ICICI Bank with effect from 13 August 2010.

ICICI to Control Mewar Aanchalik Gramin Bank

The merger of ICICI with Bank of Rajasthan (BoR) gave ICICI control over 468 branches, as well as the 58 branches of a regional rural bank sponsored by BoR. The regional rural bank (RRB) sponsored by BoR is the Mewar Aanchalik Gramin Bank (MAGB) which was established in 1983 and has branches in three districts of Rajasthan- Udaipur, Rajsam and and Pratapgarh.

Telvent in an Agreement with L&T

Telvent, a US based global information technology company, on 19 June 2010 announced that it entered into an agreement with Larsen and Toubro to execute a contract for Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company. The agreement was signed with the objective to implement baseline data and IT applications for energy accounting, auditing and IT-based consumer service centres for 95 towns in India.

Tata Consultancy Services Won Contract from Teleno

India’s largest software company Tata Consultancy Services on 16 June 2010 declared that it had won a multi-year outsourcing contract from Telenor Norway. According to the deal, TCS will provide Norway's incumbent telecommunications company with services related to application maintenance and development services.

SBG Projects Acquired Share in Maytas

Mauritius-based infrastructure arm of the Saudi Bin Ladin Group, SBG Projects Investments, acquired 20 per cent stake in Maytas Infra Limited from the present promoter IL&FS at Rs 195.30 a share. The procurement of the stakes led to an investment of about Rs 300 crore.

UTV New Media declared on 4 August 2010 that it signed up with tennis ace Mahesh Bhupathi's celebrity management company, Globosport with an objective to develop applications and interactive services for mobile and Web platforms. Also UTV would create digital content for celebrities represented by Globosport.

VPT in Agreement with Sterlite, SAIL and Essar
