1. (c) Maharashtra

Maharashtra government announced on August 10, 2021 that it has decided to introduce Rajiv Gandhi Award for firms that are excelling in the Information Technology (IT) sector in the state.

2. (a) Guinea

West Africa's first case of the Marburg virus was reported in Guinea. Marburg is a highly infectious disease in the same family as the virus that causes Ebola. The virus disease is transmitted to people from fruit bats and spreads between humans through the transmission of bodily fluids.

3. (d) Gujarat

The Government of Gujarat has sought the assistance of Rs. 2,000 crores from the Central Government for Project Lion. As per a senior government official, the request is under active consideration for approval.

4. (b) Vinesh Phogat

Vinesh Phogat, India's star wrestler has been temporarily banned by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) for indiscipline during her Tokyo Olympics campaign. The Wrestling Federation of India issued a notice to Vinesh on August 10, 2021 announcing the temporary ban on three charges, most importantly for a breach of contract. Vinesh Phogat has been given time until August 16 to reply to the notice.

5. (d) Pul-e-Khumri

The Taliban on August 10, 2021 captured the eighth provincial capital in Afghanistan, Pul-e-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province in the north. The city fell as the pro-government militias retreated to the Afghan army's largest base in the Kelagi desert. Pul-e-Khumri is located about 200km from Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.

6. (a) Delhi

Delhi Government has launched a color-coded system to tackle COVID-19. The color-coded action plan will be based on three parameters: cumulative new positive cases, test positivity rate (TPR), and occupancy of oxygen beds in the hospitals. The restrictions have been classified under Yellow, Amber, Orange, and Red alert.

7. (a) New Zealand

Former New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns is on life support in an intensive care unit at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney after he suffered an aortic dissection in the heart last week.

8. (b) August 11th

Khudiram Bose was a freedom fighter who laid down his life for India’s Independence from British rule. On August 11, 1908, he was executed by the British Colonial state for his involvement in the Muzaffarpur Conspiracy Case. He was just 18 years old when he was executed by the British Colonial State.
