The Delhi Cabinet on 24 may 2010 decided to hike the registration fee (or road tax) on luxury cars and two-wheelers from 1 June 2010. The measure was adopted in attempt to reduce traffic problem and air pollution in Delhi. The Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit established that two per cent would be charged for two-wheelers that cost up to Rs 25,000 while the ones that cost above Rs 25000 would be charged four per cent tax. The rate for cars priced up to Rs 6 lakh was doubled to four per cent and to seven percent for those that cost between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. However the increase in case of non-luxury cars and two-wheelers would be minimal.
