Delhi Government on 6 August 2015 reconstituted the Urdu Academy which will comprise of renowned academicians, performers and poets and announced a threefold increase in artistes' pay.
Dr. Majid Deobandi was appointed as the Vice-Chairperson of the Academy. Deobandi is a very well known and popular figure in the Urdu Circle.
The Urdu Academy will pay its artistes 15000 rupees from the previous amount of 5000 rupees for their recitals and poetry.
The action is government's bid to promote art and culture in regional languages in Delhi.
